Ive seen a few sites complete theses questions. So I wanted to do it myself too. Orignally from here: Questions from mouseling.net

1. Please introduce yourself.

I'm Emma or 3maqi!

2. How long have you been making websites?

Techinally since college. I took a few classes about it. After that took a big break, and then started this site in 2025!

3. And what got you into the hobby?

A mixture of things. One was just seeing neocities posted somewhere a while ago. I saw it and thought it was really cool. I also wanted a space to post my art, that wasn't tied to a social media platform.

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?

I really like personal blogs. I enjoy how each person styles and formats things differently.

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?

I am more of a come up with things on the go. I try to store my ideas in a to do list so I dont forgot about them. Sometimes If I have a big enough itch Ill work on my site on that thing. For example Ive had a crazy itch to work on my skyrim shrine for a while.

6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.

Im really inspired by Petrapixel, Aid's Little Corner, Demonic Pedigree, Ophanimkei, Starry Grove, and pretty much anyone one else that I follow on neocities haha. I feel like every site has so much love and care, and sometimes when I am feeling a lull ill look at others sites for ideas.

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?

How much creative and control you have over it. I really enjoy making themed shrines, formatting journals however I please, and grouping and sorting my different interested in pages.

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?

I really don't know javascript or css that well. I also feel like my css is OK, but it could be better. Sometimes I really stuggle with aligning certain elements to my liking. Ive been thinking about sitting down and focusing on really learning css. Mainly because I have had to ask AI for help before, and its not really something I want to rely on.

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?

My shrines have different layouts, but most of my other pages use a similar layout. Ive been thinking about switching up my site to add more pages of different layouts.

10. How confident are you with CSS?

I feel ok about it. I understand the basics, but I feel like I have a lot more to learn to really level up how my site could look.

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?

no. but this has taught me how to do so better.

12. What is your favourite HTML element?

I never really thought about that. maybe paragraph? I think I use that the most.

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?

I like to figure out what content I want to have on it. I usually make a page based around a theme.

14. Do you know JavaScript?

Sorta? I have a basic understanding of how programming languages work. Ive done a tiny bit of it on my site. Taken peoples scripts and modify them a bit.

15. How about PHP?

I used it in college in one of my classes, but Ive kinda forgotten most of it. Neocites doesnt allow backend scripting anyhow so its not something I need to use.

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?

I have a very loose green theme ive been using. I've been debating switching up the look of my site though. Maybe when I learn more css.

17. Are you more focused on content or design?

Hmm, I would say both? I like adding things but I enjoy making my site themed as well.

18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?

19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?

LOVE them! I think owning a blog in the big old "2026" is in itself very retro, as most people post things on social media. I really like it when people focus on a type of nostalgia as well such as frutigeraeroarchive.org!

20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?

no... I didn't know that was a thing until now. My Html is not valid, ill have to go back and fix things. W3 Validator

21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?

So cute. I love collecting buttons of peoples sites. I have been wanting to collect some random buttons just for fun. Maybe make a little page just to have a collection of them!

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?

CUTE!!!

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?

Im not sure. Part of me really likes what Ive made, and other parts of me kinda wants something completely new.

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?

Not really. I feel more inspired then envious.

25. What text editor do you use?

Vscode

26. Why do you use that one?

Free

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?

I host it on my site!

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

hmmm, I don't really have a strong opinion about it. I like neocites, and I like that I can follow others. I don't really know what makes Nekoweb different. Not something I have looked into.

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?

according to neocites im using: Using 0.6% (318.05 MB) of my 50 GB storage. Still have plenty of space. I have been considering getting my own server, but its not something im too worried about at the moment. Plus I enjoy the Github Neocities API and im not sure how easy that would be implentment on a different server.

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?

Yes. I also upload to github as well.

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?

I like both. I think both have a different beauty to them, if that makes sense. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. I also really enjoy ugly sites as well as strange as that sounds. Maybe I just like any and all sites that arent social media or highly corporate. I just kinda hate how X, instagram, facebook, and tiktok kinda all look the same. I would say tumblr is the only one that I respect because they let you customize your blog homepage.

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?

I have this green color for my site. I just really like greeeeen. Ive been loving the spring and the summer because of how green everything is :)

33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?

Not really. I still have a lot of energy for it. I feel like the only reason I would quit is if I was being harassed a TON or maybe had some crazy life changes.

34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?

I have some people I follow and check up on, but I would consider them more like neocity neighbors. So yes I guess it is a solitary hobby.

35. Do people in your real life know about your website?

Yes. Ive told some of my friends about it. Not really my family because of my journals and some of my.. furry art haha.

36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?

Ya I try to update my site at least once a week or biweekly. Id say weekly is pretty often.

37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?

Id say the overall style hasnt changed too much. I would say I havent change it because it would take a while to do so. Ive been thinking about making some major layout changes, but Ive been slow to do so.

38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?

I would say more me focused? I do post alot about my hobby here, but its more about the things ive made for my hobby, then guides or infomation about that said hobby.

39. Do you do web design professionally?

No, but I do work in tech.

40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?

I've thought about it before. Im just not sure if it makes sense with the AI bubble. Currently I work in tech as a QA. Its a bit boring but it pays well.

41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?

Not really. sometimes I get email at work, but even then I dont send that many. I wish more people wrote to me.. wink wink ;) email me here at emma@3maqi.art

42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?

You know, I really have been meaning to get rid of social media and Ive been struggling to pull the plug. I think part of it is FOMO, and part of it is staying in touch with friends and family. I also have a lot of my art stored on instagram as well.

43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?

I mainly use discord. The only reason I haven't delete snapshot is because my friend in the UK uses it and its how we mainly chat with each other.

44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?

ya sometimes. Sometimes I just work in silence too. I like listening to all kinds of things. I like most music, INCLUDING jazz and country. I would actually say im not that fond of 2020's pop. I find it to be very repetitive and boring. I don't hate all pop, but its not that highly ranked for me. I have a friend whos always been interested in alternative rock, indie rock, shoegaze, and its really rubbed off on me. I try to hide how much I hate pop just to not upset others haha, but in reality I really am a pretentious hipster at heart. I miss listening to music with her. I do like some 2000 ~ 2010's pop still many songs I do not like. For example i've never really liked taylor swift, or justin bieber.

45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?

I just have this site. but I do have like "sub-sites" for my different shrines.

46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?

Many different topics. Currently I have a minecraft shrine, Skyrim and one for my cat.

47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?

I think I am a bit more real on my site then i am in real life. If that makes any sense. I do have a goblinsona but thats to represent me.

48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?

no :(

49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?

ya! I feel like frameworks arent really even needed because how far html and css has gone.

50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?

hmm, maybe publishing a template that isnt really ready? Its frustrating to click around on sites and there isnt much content, or everything is "underconstuction"

51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?

Use a local host!

52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?

emm.. I feel like I could be better.

53. Do you consider different browsers?

I dont really care too much about it.

54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.

dont have one.

55. And what OS are you on?

Windows 11.

56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?

I like it for the most part. RECENTLY though ive been getting popup ads, which has been pissing me off. I do think windows is best OS for gaming though. Linux usually has no support, and mac often is more buggy and suffer the same issue of litle support.

57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?

I try to make it mobile friendly. I dont think its perfect, but its close enough.

58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?

NO!

59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?

I think they are cute. Im in 2!

60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?

Ya, I have 3!

• Skyrim Shrine
• Minecraft Shrine
• My Cat Zelda's Shrine

I really like shrines because its fun to make like drastically different theming. Such as font, images, layouts and other such things. I even have custom cursors in some of em.

61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?

Probably? I think thats ok though :)

62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?

hmm, I think as long as im happy with it thats works for me. I think Id like to have a mini game or two on my site, but game development is.. daunting. haha.

63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?

Yes! one of first things i put on my site is my art! My website cursor and button were made by me. Ive also photoshopped my background to work my color theme.

64. What are your favourite resource sites?

I really like 32bit cafe.

65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?

Putting off my to-do list and working on something else instead. I also feel like I don't try to use new stuff enough.

66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?

Use w3school like its the bible

67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?

most of my css is in one file. I have seperate css files for my shrines since the styling is so different.

68. What do you think of frameset layouts?

one second let me look that up... Oh Ive never heard of it because frameset have been obsolete since 2014. Which since the time of writing this has been 12 years ago.. I think it would be cute to do if you were trying to do a retro site though.

69. How about table-based layouts?

I have heard this, and same thing. Just very outdated. same thing as I said before. I think it would be cute to do if you were trying to do a retro site though.

70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?

I have a 1 or two column layout on my sites. I think that they all have different purposes.

71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?

hmm its a bit equal.

72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.

yes! I have a notes page with super mininal styling. almost no css

73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?

No ive never done that. I been thinking about doing that though for css practice. Maybe make some free templates for others to use.

74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?

I would say im somewhere in the middle or maybe beginner.

75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?

Sometimes If I wonder how it worked.

76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?

college and w3schools

77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?

hmm. Maybe I use them incorrectly but not on purpose

78. Thoughts on floating elements?

no thoughts

79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?

im big 100% person. sometimes px too.

80. Do you have a favourite font?

The minecraft font and skyrim font are both cool.

81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?

I would be down for that! Im not sure who would want to do that with me though. I think I could see myself as more of the layout person and maybe the other person would be more focused on content.

82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?

Ya I normally jump around neocites and other indie websites

83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?

yes, esp if I cant sub via neocites.

84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?

My art, and the drawbox!

85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?

I like gaming. I have a "retro" wii and some games

86. How often and for how long are you online?

too much. Chronically online

87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?

other indie site members.

88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?

No. I don't know much bout it.

89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?

Ive had to program here and there for my job. I used to sometimes write in java but mainly its been just me making configuration changes, terraform stuff, and bash.

90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?

Ive never used an offical one. I do have a hacked ive made so I dont have to constantly update my header and footer. Im not sure if I would use one. I like keeping my site framework light. less debugging I have to do.

91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?

ya! neocites has one so its pretty easy to implement.

92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?

I dont often. Sometimes Im on 32bit cafe or Status cafe. Sadily forums are endangered. Reddit & discord has killed off most peoples reasons for needing to make one. Even neocites "forum" is on reddit & discord

93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?

I write it directly into the editor.

94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?

Most people call me cool. I think maybe my sisters think im kinda embarssing though.

95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?

I used to be. But now that im old and time has passed Im really proud of things ive made. I wouldn't be where I am now without the work I put in then.

96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?

I'd like to archieve it if I could.

97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?

I feel like im revealing about myself, but I try to keep my friends and work stuff more secertive. I also don't really like how I look so I don't think Id ever post a face picture. Im the type of girl who has never been hit on because to be honest, I am ugly. Its ok haha. Its nice. I never get harassed, and I protect my friends from men who do. I am that fridge, or that "whale" that incels and "redpilled" men hate. And I'd do it again. If my friend calls me in, its a reflection on you. Not me. Cope.

98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?

none of my friends have a website :(

99. And do you optimise the images on your website?

I did have to one time, because neocites API said no...
